Gloria Almeyda Stemper, Americas Board Representative

Gloria has been been working at the Center for Intercultural Education & Development (CIED) in Georgetown University (GU) for the past 8 years. Works In programs for youth technical training for employment and with rural primary teachers from Central America/ Dominican Republic and Mexico. Her professional experience and commitment has been in community development and microfinance.

 


Rob Becker, Treasurer
Rob is a former partner of McKinsey & Company (1990-2005). While at McKinsey, he was the lead partner on a pro-bono client engagement with Child Helpline International. Jeroo subsequently invited Rob to join the Board of Aflatoun as treasurer.

 

Jeroo Billimoria, Aflatoun Founder and General Board Member
Jeroo is a serial social entrepreneur who has founded seven organizations including Aflatoun. She is currently the Executive Director of ChildFinance. Jeroo was named an Ashoka Innovator in 1999 and received the Schwab Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs in 2001 among many other awards for her work. She was featured in David Bornstein's book How to Change the World.

    Violet Diallo, Francophone Africa Representative
Violet is one of the first group of Aflatoun enquirers, bring Aflatoun to children in the French-speaking world with CAMIDE in Mali. She runs her own consultancy GAP and has extensive experience in education in Mali


Jaap Doek, Chairman
Professor Jaap Doek is a global authority in the field of Child Rights and is the Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. While Prof Doek does not sit on the board of any other organization around the world, he has made an exception for Aflatoun due to his conviction of its potential.

   

Brian Elliot, Daily Board Representative
Brian has been a driving force behind Amsterdam Worldwide's growth into one of the new respected names in international advertising, helping to redefine the way advertising is done for cross border brands that are looking for top creativity and value for money. Canadian born, Brian did his early training in international advertising in Frankfurt, and went on to found two agencies. He has been a longtime volunteer with Aflatoun, helping shape its global brand and communication strategy.


Herman Hulst, Secretary
Herman is the CEO of Ernst and Young for both the Netherlands and for the Central Europe Area. Herman’s path to Aflatoun began with a lecture by David Bornstein at the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Herman is committing his firm’s resources to ensure that Aflatoun, even in its early years, has the most professional internal practices possible.

 

Ingrid Jones, Europe Regional Representative

Ingrid has been the Executive Director of Partnerë për Fëmijët for 7 years. Partnerë për Fëmijët has been a partner to Aflatoun since 2008. Ingrid is responsible for programme and project development and her main interests are the rights of children, child protection, early intervention and the improvement of children's lives all over the world.

 

Irene Mutumba, Africa Regional Representative

Irene is a teacher by profession, a social and business entrepreneur whose vision is to create an entrepreneurial society in Uganda by integrating and promoting entrepreneurship skills, business and financial education in the formal and informal education system. She is the executive director of The Private Education Development Network in Uganda.

 

Lata Narayan, Asia Regional Representative

Lata is currently an Associate Professor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. She has a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Social Work. The themes of interest and work include, Children, Youth, Training Methodology, Social Work Education and Practice, Human Rights. She has conducted research studies and has written extensively and published articles in journals, books on the above mentioned themes. She is a Board member of two organizations in India which work on the concerns of urbanization and tribal rights. She is currently the President of MelJol which implements and coordinates the Aflatoun programme in India.
